TESTIMONIALS

Ida Tin /
[CLUE]

Co-Founder Clue,
Mother of the term Femtech

I have worked with Fabián on two big projects, one a complete design and implementation of Clue's office in Berlin, and a complete refurbishment and rebuilding of my town house also in Berlin. Both demonstrated Fabián’s unique ability to work collaboratively and creatively together with me as a key stakeholder. It was so much fun to develop ideas and find solutions together. He expanded my thinking while listening well enough to ensure that the final results was exactly what I wanted, even if I hadn't known from the beginning.

Fabián is a real crafts man, who understands all the steps from concept to construction. He even managed builders, contractors,
found suppliers - we even did work together on the final details of the building!

Fabián has a brilliant eye and a daring love for colours. He manages to keep things clean and really well designed, while still making them feel human and relatable and with a high note of bright mood.

I cannot recommend Fabián enough. I hope I get a chance to work closely together with him again on new projects, for work or privately!

Founder & Commercial Leader Business Line Eyewear at Materialise

My encounter with Fabián Hofmann Bonengél in the early days when I entered the eyewear industry was transformational. Fabián’s
multi-disciplinary view-point on form, function, artisanship, quality opened my eyes and planted seeds of the passion I developed for this industry.

Throughout the years, Fabián not only embraced the potential of the 3D printing technology which connected us in the first place, but he also embraced the challenge to help me bring insights to our entire eyewear team about this industry from multiple angles relevant for management, design, project management, post processing, artisanal finishing and quality control.

I remain indebted to Fabián for his friendship and guidance throughout the years.

[MONOQOOL]

Founder

When we started a new ground breaking project working with a new technology, we felt we needed new inspiration
and a 'fresh pair of eyes' when designing the collection.

Due to the innovative technology allowing for more bold and unique details, we asked Fabián to work on a series of frames reflecting the new opportunities, and to push us out of the 'comfort zone'. And there is no better designer than Fabián to do just that!

We got just what we wanted and then more with Fabián throwing in couple of very eye-popping designs sure to grap the attention.
Fabián showed great focus on details, and came up with cool sculpturing 3-dimensional effects creating designs that stands out from the rest.

I first met Fabián in the early 2000s, when he joined ic! berlin as an external designer. What began with a handful of capsule collections — ambitious, technically demanding, and sold out almost instantly — quickly evolved into something deeper. By early 2001, he had taken on the challenge of building an entirely new design department at a time when the company [ic! Berlin] had lost its original founders and creative direction. What emerged was more than a team — it was a kind of experimental workshop, affectionately known as Station 13, where many of our most unconventional product families were born.

Together with my team, I helped develop the plastics and ONONO lines in close collaboration with Fabián’s department —
a phase that left a lasting mark on how we thought about design and production.

Since then, our paths have crossed time and again over the last 25 years — always in new constellations, always with a sense of mutual trust and curiosity. Working with Fabián is never predictable: his way of approaching challenges is often layered, sometimes obsessively detailed, but always clear in intention and deeply solution-oriented. He sees things before others notice them — and knows how to transform complex ideas into tangible, usable results.

More than a designer, he is a kind of analytical partner — someone who asks the questions you didn’t think to ask yet.

The pair of glasses on my current LinkedIn photo has been designed by Fabián Hofmann Bonengél some years ago. Definitely the best eye wear I've ever had. I have been asked for that multiple times due to its perfect fit on my face.

How it happens: Fabian once looked at me several minutes, then grabbed two models out of dozens he had designed and decided without a doubt for Tridacna Crocea which has been the perfect decision to my look and needs. Not only this has deeply impressed me. Fabián Hofmann Bonengél does not simply know all about design and its function. He "feels" the right design for something in its individual context.
He is gifted – in a virtuous way.

The collaboration with Fabián began in 2006, when his “Mountain” collection with ceramic hinges for Whiteout & Glare set a new benchmark — a design that truly stood out and stayed with me. Later, during his time with Coblens, our conversations became more in-depth: the ultra-light titanium frames he developed back then already felt ahead of their time. Naturally, we also carried the first pieces from his Neon Berlin line — bold, polyamide-based designs that immediately drew attention.

At the moment, our shop window proudly features the distinctive, high-end acetate sunglasses from Barcelunettes.

What has remained constant over the years is the creative exchange. We regularly talk about ideas, materials, and where the world of eyewear might be heading. It's inspiring to be in dialogue with someone who approaches form, colour, and design with such dedication. That shared love for design is something we both care deeply about — and I’m certain it will continue to spark many exciting ideas in the future.

"There’s a certain clarity that only comes with distance — and Fabián has it.

Working with him felt less like building something new, and more like uncovering what was already there. He listens deeply,
sees patterns others miss, and distills complexity into something quietly precise and unmistakably personal.

In a market where so many voices sound alike, he helped me find my own — not by adding, but by refining.
What emerged wasn’t a louder version of myself, but a sharper one.

Thoughtfully aligned. Quietly confident. Recognisable."
