A PLACE IN MOTION. QUIETLY EVOLVING.
Like the surface of a well-used workbench – or the ripple of water under changing light – this site reflects the work itself: shaped by time, by traces of thought, and by what’s yet to come. It will continue to grow, slowly and deliberately — like most things I care about.
Never a dull moment.
You’d think that after 35 years in one field, things might get a little… repetitive. But here’s the surprising part: it never, ever gets boring.
There’s a quiet kind of growth I’ve come to appreciate. What once was learned knowledge has, almost without my noticing, turned into something else entirely: intuition.
That fascinates me. It might come across as instinct – yet it’s the sum of years of insight. A solid, almost concrete kind of certainty. A sense of knowing what’s ahead. A soft clairvoyance, if you will. A compass of sorts.
Strange? Maybe. But I’ve come to trust it – this way of sensing, of deciding. It’s not guesswork. It’s a form of knowing that feels almost dreamlike: grounded, fluid, and built on years of practice. A reflex, sometimes. A rhythm.
I don’t really control how it happens – but I recognize when it does.
Every client is different. I absorb what’s there – their world, their tone, their needs – and build something from it that’s personal, tailored, and always unique. Just like the people I work with.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy browsing — and feel free to reach out via Instagram.
From complete collections to bespoke technical solutions:
I support eyewear brands with design concepts, material consulting, and the development of components and tools.
Every frame is treated as a balance of craftsmanship and architecture, with careful attention to function, proportion, and individuality.
Design is not about making things pretty. Design is about making things work.
Fabián M Hofmann Bonengél
It may seem a little self-referential to quote oneself — but after all these years in eyewear, I’ve found that this line has held up.
It’s been quoted in interviews, articles, and a few unexpected places over time. And somehow, it still says what I need it to say.
Design is rarely about decoration. It’s a process of uncovering how things behave, how they function over time — visually, technically, culturally.
When done well, design clarifies. It connects intent with material, structure with meaning, product with context.
This applies to eyewear just as much as to signage, retail environments, or packaging systems. It’s never just about how things look.
It’s about how they work — for the user, the brand, and the people in between.
My approach is not shaped by a single discipline. I often bring together elements that weren’t meant to meet — materials, references, processes —
in order to uncover connections that feel both surprising and inevitable.
Design becomes meaningful when it acknowledges its cultural surroundings: industry and intuition, function and emotion, subculture and silent logic.
Sometimes, part of the work is recognising what’s already in the air — before it becomes visible, nameable, mainstream. Seeing patterns where others see fragments.
Sensing shifts in form, tone, or attitude — not to follow trends, but to understand their logic before they unfold.
Because design can be many things at once: A system, a statement, a response. It can be deeply structural — and at times, unapologetically stylistic.
Sometimes, it’s about precision. Sometimes, about presence.
Collaboration doesn’t mean replacing what’s already there. It’s not about overriding internal design teams or rewriting decisions. It’s about offering a different angle —
a shift in rhythm, language, or logic — that can help things move again. That shift — small as it may be — can make a difference.
In my work, I support brands in moments of transition or refinement. That may include rethinking form and proportion, revisiting collection narratives,
or considering new audiences without losing existing ones. Sometimes, it’s simply about realigning what a brand already knows — and translating it into something that resonates again.
Beyond objects, identity matters.
I create visual systems for brands — from naming and logo development to packaging, labeling, and corporate design.
Through thoughtful design, I help translate a brand’s values into a coherent and timeless visual language that resonates across different mediums.
Spaces are silent storytellers.
I design retail environments, trade show stands, shop-in-shop systems, and bespoke furniture — tailored to create seamless brand experiences.
My focus is on crafting atmospheres that reflect a brand’s identity and invite meaningful engagement.
