Right at the beginning of his artistic career, Hofmann Bonengél was introduced to the art of glasswork. Professor Johannes Schreiter, his early mentor, arranged an internship for him at Maureen McGuire's design office in Arizona, where he learned different methods of glasswork such as leaded glass, Tiffany-style glasswork, glass-slumping, and other techniques. His experiences in this field and a newly awakened interest in this art form within the context of architecture have, in a sense, brought him back to the place where he started.
Glass art, especially leaded glass (commonly referred to as stained glass), can be an excellent addition to modern, clear building structures as a brilliant highlight. The materials used, the high level of craftsmanship, and the duration of the manufacturing process make leaded glass a somewhat expensive undertaking.
